English Cottage Garden Stroll

By Bertog Landscape Company

The client’s request for an “English Garden Style” design posed unique challenges given HOA restrictions. A front flagstone walkway leads past a colorful mix of perennials, Ivory Halo dogwood, Karen Azalea and green gem boxwood. A pair of single-stem Tina Crabapples flank a garden bench. A bluestone pathway strolls past a mix of Dutch Master daffodil, Globemaster allium and grape hyacinth. Bobo® hydrangea, summer perennials and ornamental grasses extend the flowering season into late fall. A stepper pathway is interplanted with Chocolate Chip Ajuga, creeping thyme and moneywort. It leads to a private bluestone patio with brick detail and an attached cedar pergola. A formal boxwood hedge encloses the back bluestone patio for structure and contrast, highlighting a mixed border of colorful perennials and flowering shrubs. Dark green arborvitae creates privacy. The project reflects the homeowner’s personality, “a sense of place” and the need for connection to her garden spaces.
