DESIGN TOUR
Come join us for “Summer in the City”!
Four years in the making, this insiders tour will visit seven iconic public gardens in the heart of downtown Chicago. We’ve all visited these sites before, but do you know the “why” behind the garden design? How did building, installation, foot traffic and weather effect plant choice? What hidden resources were used to achieve structure? When does maintenance become challenging? We’ll answer these questions and many more!
Every site has a STQRY (pronounced “story-cue”)
On top of personal interactions with the landscape professionals behind the garden spaces, the tour will use the STQRY app. STQRY is a web-based audio program that will thread each space together while you walk from garden to garden. STQRY will provide background, photos, and audio directly from your smartphone. Attendees are encouraged to bring headphones to maximize their experience and get the real “STQRYs” behind these remarkable garden spaces.
While Executive Director of the Millennium Park Foundation, Scott Stewart was influential in bringing the Design Tour together. He assisted the ILCA Design Committee in identifying and securing the sites, and possesses a wealth of information about each one. It’s only fitting that Scott join us on the Design Tour! The ILCA staff and Design Committee are grateful for his dedication to this event.
Come join Scott as he shares some of his knowledge (and maybe a few secrets!) about each site.
