Backyard Streams

By Reflections Water Gardens

For a north suburban Chicago couple, dreams for their backyard oasis appeared to be realized with the addition of a new landscape, raised-bed gardens, an expansive deck and a nearby fire pit surrounded by deep green Adirondack chairs. The serene setting even overlooks a forested ravine dotted with trails and close-in birdhouses. Yet the homeowners quickly realized they were missing something – the soothing sound of flowing water to complete the experience. Carefully working around the newly installed landscape features, we designed and built a 20-foot long by 3-foot wide pond free waterfall on a strip of sloping lawn along the east side of the deck, creating a 3-foot elevation change for streams of water from the top of the fall to the bottom. This smaller water feature has a natural presentation, with varied stones and cobbles dictating direction and flow. Soothing sounds further come from four strategically placed mini falls.
